This year's topic: Flower Garden Appliqué Borders
Create your own beautiful appliqué borders for your quilts. Learn to design and appliqué original borders. The project can be borders for your own quilt top, make a strippy style quilt like Sue's "Blue Tulips on Pink Skies" or a small table runner/ wall quilt is also an option. We love looking at 19th century folk art appliqué quilts for ideas. Many of Sue and Pat's quilts will be available for inspiration. Next, learn machine appliqué using an easy raw edge fusible technique. Sue and Pat will take you through the steps to master machine appliqué and achieve perfect stitching! Sue's next book will be Flower Garden Borders: Design and Machine Appliqué Techniques (2016 release date) As a bonus, Sue and Pat will also cover how they quilt their appliqué quilts in demo format.
We know many come to the retreat for a relaxing time with no pressure, so please feel free to make this work for you. There will be “classes” that last one to two hours. Day One will be Design; Day Two, Applique Basics and Day Three & Four, Work on your own border with guidance from Pat and Sue.
*Please note- We will also teach a straight stitch machine appliqué method and include instruction for pieced borders.
