This year's topic: Two Color Quilts
In 2011, there was an amazing exhibit of red and white quilts in New York City. This was the spark that grew into the idea for this year's retreat topic. Retreat students will create their own two color quilt. We will show many quilts (old and new) and have lots of ideas for inspiration. We will give lessons in machine piecing, machine applique and machine quilting. Feel free to incorporate any hand techniques as well. Some ideas for your project include: true two color quilts (red and white, blue and white, etc.), scrappy-type pieced quilts, traditional applique projects, feathered stars, modern style and more. We will help students with drafting pieced designs, drawing applique projects and other techniques.
Sue's quilt, "Le Panier de Fleur" is a favorite of many students. This navy and cream quilt demonstrates one option for a "two color" quilt. This pattern will be available at the retreat.
We know many of you come for a relaxing time with no pressure so feel free to make this work for you. There will be lessons that last one to two hours in the mornings and some afternoons.
